Music and the Soul

Music can evoke so many different things for different people.  Some may think of it as noise, while others may think of it as a release from daily life.

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

It is human nature to want to find ourselves lost in a good story and music plays a very important role.  Music brings depth and feeling to a movie.  It defines what the viewer should expect and resonates the the emotions of the viewers.

Operas are some of the most powerful forms of music.  Wagner wrote many, but his most famous is Die Walküre (Flight of the Valkyrie).  The Opera was made iconic by Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd for children everywhere.   He was hunting the rabbit and the rabbit was the Valkyrie.  The Flight of the Valkyrie played an iconic role in Francis Ford Copolla’s movie Apocalypse Now as the brigade of 1st Calvary dove through the jungle in Huey Helicopters.   But let’s be honest, we all thought of Elmer singing “I’m hunting the wabbit” when it plays.

Operas transcend language barriers.  Some are in Italian, German and English,  but none of it matters because the music is what brings in the story.   The music controls your emotions as you watch the story unfold before you and if you’re lucky enough to understand the language the lyrics will move you.

Let the music move you and take you to another world, another place, another time… Let go and drift away…
